Etruscan Researches by Isaac Taylor

Publishing: 1874 Macmillan and Co. First Edition

illustrated with frontpiece and fivewood cuts.

A First Edition of Isaac Taylor’s (1829-1901) Etruscan Researches in which he contended for the Ugrian origin of the Etruscan language. The exact origin of the Etruscan language is still debated, although modern scholars generally agree that it’s a pre-Indo-European language unique to one region of Italy and to Lemnos, Greece. The Etruscans were an important and complex people, their legacy is now shrouded in questions thanks to the loss of Etruscan papyri and other artifacts.

Chapters include: The Etruscan Mythology, The Etruscan Mythology, The Etruscan Numerals, Epitaphs, The Ancient Vocabulary, etc.

Condition: leather bound, five raised bands gilt decorated spine with morrocco label title, marbled end papers and edges, corners bumbed, damage to marbled paper along pastedown due to removed bookplate, a clean copy in Very Good Condition
