Published by Dr. Nochols at the Hygienic Institute (1880s) American Stereotype Edition, Revised and Rewritten

An obscure little book published by Thomas LowNichols, who was an American Physician . Nichols was a student of medicine at Dartmouth but laterdropped out to become a radical journalist, which eventuallyresulted in a short prison stint. He was an advocate of free love, animal rights, and hydrotherapy.Animal Rightsand vegetarianism activist Ernest Bell, credited Nichols’ pamphlet How to Live on Sixpence A-day, as the initial inspiration for his vegetarianism. The present offering was published while Nichols was serving as president of the American Hydropathic Institute. He presents the book as ‘private treatise’ that should be treated as ‘strictly confidential professional consultation between physician and patient’.He approaches healing from an esoteric perspective taking into account both the natural and spiritual body, in hopes that everyone may “understand structures and functions of his system, the conditions of health; and its restoration”
